Global Financial Crisis – Analysis and Implications

The ECMRC organized a workshop on the "Global Financial Crisis - Analysis and Implications" at the UOB on October 21, 2008.

The workshop was attended by representatives from the banking sectors, business persons, and University students.
Dr. Karim Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management, presented the chronological highlights of the problem from its early days, to the fall of stock markets, to the bailout plans of international governments, and to the dedicated financial summits. 

The workshop presented the views of experts starting with Dr. Bhavesh Patel (Fulbright visiting Scholar) who spoke of the causes which led to this crisis and how it could have been avoided. 
Dr. Paul Beaumont (Visiting professor from Florida State University) focused on traded securities with high uncovered risk profile and the impact of these securities on the crisis. 

Mr. Paul Douaihy (Director of ECMRC at UOB) featured the impact of this crisis on developed and developing economies around the world. 

Dr. Gretta Saab (Chairperson of the Economics Program at UOB) concluded with the changes which need to happen to the international financial system and needed regulations.
