Extraction of laurel seed oil.

The Land and Natural Resources Program at the Institute of the Environment, University of Balamand (LNR-IOE-UOB) organized a training workshop in the village of Mounjiz Akkar on extracting laurel seed oil. This event came within the framework of the EU funded project “Assisting Reforestation and forest Development Activities in partnership with local Communities” (ARDAC). A total of 21 participants attended the training including 6 women and 10 men from the local community of Mounjiz. The training comprised theoretical and practical sessions on extraction of crude oil from laurel seeds using a stainless steel pot and a gas burner. Laurel seed oil has been used for centuries in traditional cosmetic products such as soap. In this context, trainees acquired hands-on experience for future sustainable extraction of crude oil taking advantage of the existing laurel forest in Mounjiz.
