A training workshop for guides was conducted in the village of Mounjiz in Akkar on 14-11-2017. This training was organized by the Environmental and Energy Economics (EEE) program with the support of the Land and Natural Resources (LNR) program at the Institute of the Environment, University of Balamand.

This event came within the framework of the EU funded project “Assisting Reforestation and forest Development Activities in partnership with local Communities” (ARDAC). A total of 15 participants attended the training including 5 women and 10 men mainly from the local community of Mounjiz.

The training was provided by Mr. Pascal Abdallah, expert in tourism development, and included a session on heritage and local identity, followed by a presentation on how to identify Unique Selling Point (USP) in the particular case of rural tourism. Potential products and services that could be offered by Menjez to tourists were then discussed. Participants worked afterwards on identifying types of tourists visiting the village and suggested tourism packages to be provided. Finally, a visit was made to megalithic tombs, a potential USP in Mounjiz.
