Training-workshop 17-10-2017 (Mounjiz Akkar)​

Ecotourism services.

A training workshop on ecotourism services was conducted in the village of Mounjiz in Akkar on 17-10-2017. This training was organized by the Environmental and Energy Economics (EEE) program with the support of the Land and Natural Resources (LNR) program at the Institute of the Environment, University of Balamand.

This event came within the framework of the EU funded project “Assisting Reforestation and forest Development Activities in partnership with local Communities” (ARDAC). A total of 29 participants attended the training including 10 women and 19 men mainly from the local community of Mounjiz.

Dr. George Mitri, Director of LNR and project manager of ARDAC welcomed all the participants and introduced the context of this training and the forthcoming ones. Dr. Sabine Saba, Director of EEE, went through the objectives of the planned training workshops.

The day started with an introduction to ecotourism and rural tourism concepts, principles, benefits and challenges, provided by Dr. Jad Abou Arrage, expert in Ecotourism and Development. Dr. Abou Arrage also shared main success stories in Lebanon relating to ecotourism. A detailed session focusing particularly on the successful experience of the Lebanese Mountain Trail Association (LMTA) was then provided by Dr. Martine Btaich, president of LMTA. The sessions were moderated by Dr. Sabine Saba.
