Natural resources within the local settings of Menjez for ecotourism.

A training workshop on managing Natural resources within the local settings of Menjez for ecotourism was conducted in the village of Mounjiz in Akkar on 24-10-2017. This training was organized by the Environmental and Energy Economics (EEE) program with the support of the Land and Natural Resources (LNR) program at the Institute of the Environment, University of Balamand.

This event came within the framework of the EU funded project “Assisting Reforestation and forest Development Activities in partnership with local Communities” (ARDAC). A total of 27 participants attended the training including 7 women and 20 men mainly from the local community of Mounjiz.

During the first session, Ms. Roula Aad, Landscape and Agricultural Engineer from the University of Balamand, provided trainees with an insight on agro-tourism and agro-forestry goals, activities and benefits. Dr. George Mitri, manager of ARDAC project, highlighted the importance of protecting the Laurel forest of Menjez and went through the main forest protection options in Lebanon (e.g., nature reserves, protected forest areas, himas, etc.). Finally, Mr. Tanios Abou Khalil and Ms. Yara Kurumilian shared experience of Biladi organization on pedagogical tourism. The sessions were moderated by Dr. Sabine Saba from EEE.
