Extraction of essential oil from laurel leaves​

The Land and Natural Resources Program at the Institute of the Environment, University of Balamand (LNR-IOE-UOB) organized a training workshop in the village of Mounjiz Akkar on extracting essential oil from laurel leaves. This event came within the framework of the EU funded project “Assisting Reforestation and forest Development Activities in partnership with local Communities” (ARDAC). A total of 24 participants attended the training including 5 women and 11 men from the local community of Mounjiz. The training comprised theoretical and practical sessions on extraction of essential oil from laurel leaves using a distiller. Trainees acquired hands-on experience for future sustainable extraction of essential oil taking advantage of the existing laurel forest in Mounjiz.
