History: The library has changed premises five times. From its early beginnings in one room in 1988, it first moved to the Kazan Building where it occupied 2 rooms. Then it moved to the Murr Building where it occupied 3 rooms. The fourth move was a big step forward when the library acquired its own building, The Atef Danial Building. No one imagined that another move would follow in few years. But as the university grew and expanded, a new campus Master Plan was designed for the university. The Master Plan included building a new library, which would be located at the heart of what the Master Plan referred to as the “Path of Learning”. It will no longer be at one end of the campus. No one will have to ask “where is the library?” No matter where you intended to go on campus, the Issam Fares Library Learning center (IFLLC) will surely be in your path. Excavation commenced in early 2008. In August 2009, the construction started, and in September 2011, the fifth move was completed.
The UOB library system includes in addition to the IFLLC, two ALBA libraries, (one in Sin-al-Fil and one on the Main Campus), the Library of the St. John of Damascus Institute of Theology, the Habib and Fouad Abi Chahla Medical Library in Ashrafieh, the Akkar campus Library, and the Souk El Ghareb campus Library.
